How To Clean Marble Surfaces
Hi, this is Sheila at Heavenly Touch Maids. We serve the greater Akron and Cleveland area. And today’s question is what should I use to clean my marble surface?
The Dangers of Acid-Based Cleaners
You don’t want to use anything that’s acid based. That’s a pH of less than 7, such as vinegar, which has a 3.5 pH, very acidic. Acid based cleaners, such as a lot of bathroom cleaners are great at dissolving hard water stains and soap scum, things that are calcium carbonate based.
The Impact of Acid on Marble and Similar Surfaces
And guess what else is calcium carbonate based: your marble, limestone, travertine. So, we want to be careful because if you use an acid base such as vinegar on these surfaces, you can etch and pit them. And permanently damage them.
Recommended Cleaning Solutions for Marble
So, anything that’s pH neutral, a pH around 7, and specifically made for your soft stone.
