Richfield is one of the nine townships of Summit County, Ohio, but it also shares the name of Richfield village, also in Summit County. The population was 5,424 during the 2000 census.
Richfield is a small township northwest of Akron. It was given the name Richfield because of the large amount of “Oxbalm” or so-called “rich feed” available for the cattle. This was a common name, and there are other Richfield Townships statewide, some located in Henry and Lucas counties.
